Bulk workflow: spreadsheet to labels

Prepare a clean spreadsheet

Use one row per barcode and optional columns for product name, copies and symbology. Preserve GTIN leading zeros by formatting the spreadsheet cells as text before entry. Numeric Excel cells longer than 15 digits may already have lost precision.

Validate before downloading

Import CSV, TSV or XLSX, review the detected column mapping, and inspect errors. An invalid row should be corrected rather than silently omitted from the export. Keep separate files for unrelated symbologies when practical.

Choose the output for your operation

SVG is suited to scalable artwork, PNG to image-based workflows, ZIP to collecting many individual files and A4 PDF to a fixed 2-column × 5-row label sheet. PDF output is a starting template: check physical dimensions and scan quality against your printer and label stock.

Frequently asked questions

Why did my leading zeros disappear?

Spreadsheet applications may turn 00123 into numeric 123. Format the column as text before entering values or export text-formatted CSV.

Can I import a file with errors?

Review and correct invalid rows before exporting. BarcodeOn should not silently discard failed records.

Can I print hundreds of labels at once?

The current development workflow supports up to 200 barcode values and 200 PDF labels. Check paper alignment and test print before production.

Prepare your spreadsheet

Keep one barcode value per row and use a separate product-name column when needed. Preserve leading zeros by formatting identifiers as text in Excel. Review empty rows, duplicates and invalid check digits before exporting.

Choosing an output format

Use SVG for scalable individual barcodes, PNG for image workflows, ZIP to download a batch and PDF for print-ready label sheets. Test a small sample before producing a large print run.

Avoid silent data loss

Review the validation summary before export. An invalid row should be corrected instead of quietly omitted from a shipment or inventory label set.

Retail and warehouse formats

EAN-13 and UPC-A are appropriate for assigned retail identifiers. Code 128 is useful for internal SKU and bin IDs. GS1-128 is appropriate only when the structured GS1 application-identifier requirements are met.
